How To Sell Print On Demand Face Masks On Ebay
Updated: May 6, 2020
Selling face masks on Ebay straight after the Coronavirus global pandemic was a big no no but Ebay have now opened up the doors for you to sell cloth face masks. After the recent success on Etsy, it seems like Ebay have decided to take a turn on the sale of face masks however there are still a few things you need to take into consideration before you start listing face masks for sale on Ebay. Watch the full tutorial video below where I go into it in detail.
Why did Ebay ban the sale of face masks?
As soon as countries were starting to be put into lockdown, the demand for face masks sky rocketed, as you can see from the Google trends image below. While the demand was high and supply started to become scarce, certain sellers on Ebay were taking full advantage of the situation by increasing the prices extortionately and also making false medical claims about the masks they were selling which became unfair for buyers and could even cause potential harm so Ebay decided that they would only allow a select few sellers to sell these products.
What made Ebay change their mind?
In early April, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended Americans wear a cloth face mask when away from home to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Whilst wearing cloth face masks would not be as effective as wearing surgical masks or N95 respirators, wearing a cloth face mask would be more effective than wearing nothing at all so after careful review of their policy, Ebay then stated that it is now OK to sell cloth face masks as they mention in their official blog here however there are a few exceptions which would still need to be taken into account
What are the exceptions?
You can now sell cloth face masks however here is what Ebay have said:
When listing cloth masks, please be sure to follow these guidelines:
The listing must not make any medical claims or claims regarding their effectiveness at stopping the transmission of viruses or diseases
The listing may not mention “Coronavirus”, “COVID-19” or “Covid”
Do not list surgical or medical masks including N95 respirators
Where can I design custom face masks?
There are 2 suppliers that I will recommend however at the time I am writing this blog, there are a couple of things you need to take into account.
Printful are a supplier that have distribution centres in Europe and USA so out of both our recommendations, you will more than likely have faster delivery times. However their product database is not as big as our 2nd recommendation and also they have stated that the face mask that they are selling has a 3 week wait time due to popular demand and also shortage of staff due to lockdown. This will be temporary of course as the lockdown ends and more staff are able to get into work.
ThisNew are our second recommendation because they have a wider variety of products and also many different types of face masks that you can design. Being based in China, getting items delivered to your customers would take a little longer though, however the prices are lower so you can get higher profits by selling their products. Another thing to mention is that there is a delay at the time of lockdown when it comes to products leaving China so not only will you have slower shipping times but the current situation will mean that there is an increased delivery time from China. This will of course get better as the lockdown ends so I recommend that you make your shipping times clear and inform customers that there will be potential delays. You will find that most customers are completely fine with that and are very understanding.
I have no graphic design skill, how can I create designs?
No problem at all, I got you covered. As a matter of fact, if you look at the image at the top of this page, the lady wearing the face mask. I designed that product and I show you exactly how to do it in the YouTube video.
I use 2 online tools to create these designs and you will find they are both very easy to use after just a couple of hours of use.
First of all I use Canva to design and for all the editing, it's as easy as drag and drop. You can use this to add text, replace images and remove backgrounds as well many other effective actions.
The second tool is called Creative Fabrica which is an online tool that has hundreds of thousands of ready made design that you are able to use for commercial use. Once you find a design that you like here, you can transfer the image over to Canva and then add your own touches to create a unique design.
